아주 옛날부터 에어컨도 냉장고도 없던 시대, 교토에는 역병이 만연해 많은 사람들이 목숨을 잃었습니다.
재난을 막기위해 가마와 꽃을 세워, 시내에서 걷기시작한 것이 기원인 기온위령회는 1100년 정도의 시간을 거쳐 지금은 기온마츠리로 불리워지고있습니다.
세계대전 후에 끊어져왔던 전야제는 2014년에 부활했습니다.
기온마츠리 끝날 때 쯤이면 교토의 여름이 시작됩니다.

Really enjoyed reading about the history behind the festival, it gives the whole event a deeper meaning. In my free time, I usually unwind with something light like Subway Surfers just running through colorful streets and clearing my head. It’s simple but surprisingly relaxing after a long day.
